Abilene Christian’s Alex Carpenter and Tarleton State’s Carla Cooper were recognized as Lone Star Conference Players of the Year Monday night as the league’s annual postseason golf awards were announced at the championships banquet, held in conjunction with the LSC Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
League officials announced the all-conference teams and individual awards at the banquet. This marks the seventh year for golf’s postseason awards to be voted on by league coaches. Before, all-conference honors had been determined only by results at the LSC tournament.
Carpenter, the reigning player of the year, has earned three wins this spring to bring his total to 11 victories in his short collegiate career. The sophomore is the No. 1 ranked player in NCAA Division II by Golfstat with a 69.81 scoring average.
Cooper, who earned player of the year acclaim for the third straight year, won three tournaments with a 73.3 scoring average. The senior, who is the top-ranked Division II player, added a second-place finish and three third-place endings this spring as well.
ACU’s Trey Sullivan earned Freshman of Year honors and the Wildcats Mike Campbell was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year on the men’s side.
For the women, Tarleton’s Sharon Lau picked up Freshman of the Year honors, while the TexAnns Jerry Doyle was named Coach of the Year for the fourth time.
Carpenter was the unanimous choice on the men’s first team All-LSC and was joined by ACU teammate Cyril Bouniol, Central Oklahoma’s Colby Shrum and Josh Creel, and Cameron’s Jason Timmis.
Cooper was the undisputed pick on the women’s first team All-LSC, along with TexAnn teammates Sharon Lau and Katy Ward, Incarnate Word’s Joana De Sa Pereira and Northeastern State’s Kelsay Kirkpatrick.
A total of 10 more players were named to the second team for both men and women, while another seven men’s players and seven women’s players were recognized as honorable mention All-LSC selections.
