Cameron's Nicolas Clerc and Julia Puckhaber claimed Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances last week, league officials announced today.
MEN’S
Nicolas Clerc, Cameron University, FR, Buenos Aires, Argentina, World Hope Academy
Clerc had a phenomenal week of tennis, winning all four of the matches he played. He picked up his first win on Feb. 28 when he defeated Connor Tebow of Cowley County CC 6-1, 6-0. On March 4, he grabbed back-to-back victories. He overwhelmed East Central’s Ignacio Lucero 6-0, 6-0 and then took out Ivan Aragona of Colorado State-Pueblo 6-1, 6-0. Clerc carried his momentum into the following day, getting the best of Southwest Baptist’s Juan Estepa with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Clerc, who has only dropped one set this year, has had an outstanding season so far and boasts an undefeated record.
WOMEN’S
Julia Puckhaber, Cameron University, SO, Hambergen, Germany, Gymnasium Osterholz Schambeck
Puckhaber picked up a convincing win in her No. 2 singles match against East Central on March 1. She dispatched Rhiannon Mecanovic 6-3, 6-0. Puckhaber also secured a win at the No. 1 doubles position with her partner Amanda Moberg. The Cameron pair made quick work of ECU’s Marta Valles and Nilsa Ramirez, defeating them 8-3.
