Stewart, Adamson top women’s basketball academic honors

A total of 11 student-athletes were honored Tuesday as the Lone Star Conference women’s basketball academic honors were announced by league officials at the LSC Awards Banquet in Bartlesville, Okla.

      The recognition included an All-Academic Team, with an Academic Player of the Year, for the LSC North and South Divisions.

      Cameron’s Josie Stewart took LSC North Division Academic Player of the Year honors, while Tarleton State’s Shelby Adamson was the LSC South Division Academic Player of the Year.

      To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.30 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.

      Stewart, leads the Aggies in three point field goals made and attempted (60 of 178), free throws made, attempted, and percentage (131-of-151/..868) and is second on the team in points per game (15.4), minutes per game (32.5), rebounds per game (6.1). In just two seasons with Cameron, the senior elementary education major became the school's all time leader in three point field goals attempted and made

      Joining Stewart on the North Division All-Academic Team was Northeastern State’s Taylor Lewis and Jasmine Wright, Central Oklahoma’s Ashley Beckley, Southeastern Oklahoma’s Christin Nichols and East Central’s Jourdan Clark.

      Adamson has started in all 26 games, helping the TexAnns to a 23-3 record and the first South Division title in school history. The junior math major, leads the team in scoring (16.0), steals (56), assists (97), and free-throw pct. (.790). 

      On the South Division All-Academic Team with Adamson was teammate Sonya Sundberg, Angelo State’s Ashley James and Midwestern State’s Jazman Patterson and Cierra Thompson.
