The Angelo State women claimed its second straight and fourth conference title in seven years, while Abilene Christian captured its 17th consecutive men’s championship at the 2010 Lone Star Conference Track & Field Championships, held at LeGrand Sports Complex in San Angelo.
The Rambelles ended the meet with 297 points, the second-most points in the history of the LSC women's meet. Aisha Adams won four events for ASU.
ACU finished in second with 204 points, while West Texas A&M was third at 88. Texas A&M-Kingsville finished in fourth place with 77 points, Tarleton State fifth with 73, Eastern New Mexico sixth with 35, Central Oklahoma was seventh with 19 and Texas A&M-Commerce was eighth with 13.
On the men’s side, the Wildcats won with 205 points to 195 for the runner-up ASU. It was the closest final standings since ACU’s streak began in 1993.
Distance runner Amos Sang, who won four events, sparked the Wildcats by leading a 1-2 ACU finish in the 5,000 meters to break a 185-185 tie in team scoring with ASU for a 17-point lead before the final event.
Tarleton finished third with 108 points, while WTAMU and TAMUK ended up tied for fourth with 106, ENMU was sixth with 52 and A&M-C was seventh with 44.
