Angelo State's Chrystal Ruiz and West Texas A&M’s
Eldon Grimslid won the Heptathlon and Decathlon, respectively, at
the 76th running of the Lone Star Conference Track and Field
Championships in San Angelo, Texas.
ASU’s Ruiz won six of the seven events to claim the
heptathlon title for the second straight year with 5,373
points. She set meet records in four different events en
route to an improvement in her automatic-qualifying mark for the
NCAA Division II National Championships.
ACU’s Jessica Withrow placed second with 4,951, while the
Rambelles Cathryn Rittenberry was third with 4,193.
WTAMU’s Grimslid, won the discus and javelin Saturday,
while placing second in the 110 hurdles and the pole vault, to
score 6,775 points, the most points tallied by an LSC winner since
the 2007 meet. On Friday, he placed first in four of five
events during the first day of competition. He won the 100 meters,
long jump, shot put and high jump and placed seventh in the 400
meters.
Eastern New Mexico’s Steven Aragon finished second with
6,078, followed by Abilene Christian’s Parker Petty in third
with 6,041.
