Softball Championship: ASU wins third straight title

Angelo State completed its flawless run at the Lone Star Conference Softball Championship with a 9-1 five-inning triumph over East Central in the title game on Saturday at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex in Durant, Okla.

The Rambelles (43-12) claimed their third straight and fifth conference title in eight years to earn the league’s automatic qualification into the South Central Regional, which will be played in two four-team, double elimination tournaments at campus sites during the weekend of May 14-16.  The field will be announced at 9 a.m. Monday, May 10, via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.

ASU scored in every inning including a six-run outburst in the second inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Brittany Astle, which scored Amanda Wilhem and gave the Rambelles a lead they would never relinquish.
