Angelo State took advantage of a pair of Texas A&M-Commerce miscues to put away the Lions 2-0 in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Championships Thursday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.
The Rambelles (13-5-1) struck in the 14th minute after Texas A&M-Commerce goalkeeper Randi Hafele mishandled a free kick allowing Ashley Brown to collect the ball and find the open net for her seventh goal of the season.
Both teams kept a defensive posture throughout much of the match until Angelo State put away the match when the Lions once again mishandled the ball in the 18-yard box allowing Brandie DeBacker to score put away with her 10th goal of the season in the 89th minute.
The Rambelles move on to face No. 2-seed Abilene Christian in the LSC Championship semifinals Friday afternoon at 5 p.m.
Texas A&M-Commerce closes the season at 8-7-3.
Central Oklahoma 3, Incarnate Word 1
Central Oklahoma defeated Incarnate Word with two second half to goals to lift the Bronchos to a 3-1 win to advance in the Lone Star Conference Championships Thursday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.
The Bronchos (11-7-1) will face host Midwestern State in the semifinal round Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Sophomore Summer Grantham collected a loose ball in the middle box to bang in her sixth goal of the season to give Central Oklahoma a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute.
Incarnate Word struck back for the equalizer in the 37th minute on a breakaway goal by Sarah Hernandez for her eighth tally of the campaign to send the match tied 1-1 into the intermission.
Central Oklahoma surged ahead in the 71st minute when Ashton Morris took a through ball from Stephanie Fleig to put the Bronchos up 2-1 before Brittni Walker buried the Cardinals with a flick of Lizzie Merritt's free kick from 30 yards to give UCO a commanding two-goal lead.
The Bronchos outshot Incarnate Word by a 21-15 margin including a 15-7 edge in the second half.
Incarnate Word ends the season at 9-7-2.
