Northeastern State captures LSC Golf men's championship

Northeastern State won its fourth title in five years with a 7-under par final round to claim the 2009 men's crown at the Lone Star Conference Golf Championships as play concluded at WinStar Golf Course in Thackerville, Okla.

At 39-under, the RiverHawks (269-275-281=825) won its fourth conference championship and first since 2007 with a school record total effort.  Central Oklahoma and Midwestern State pulled within five and six strokes, respectively, after the 12th hole before NSU surged back ahead.

UCO finished second with a 29-under 835 in the team standings, while Midwestern State was third at 24-under (840).

UCO's Colby Shrum, the two-time LSC Player of the Year, topped NSU's Jeff Cox (203) and Texas A&M-Commerce's Blake Worden (206) for individual medalist honors with a 7-under par 65 on the day and a 15-under par 201 total.

The men's all-tournament team included Shrum, Cox, Worden, MSU's Andrew Ludlow and NSU's Sam Powell.
