Lone Star Conference co-champion Midwestern State led all squads
with eight players selected to the All-LSC first team as the 2009
men's soccer awards were announced on Thursday.
MSU and co-LSC champion West Texas A&M will
face off in the first round of the NCAA Division II Regional on
Friday in Durango, Colo., with 19 All-Conference performers on the
field.
On the first team for the Mustangs were Allen
Thompson, Brian Martinez, Ryan Spence, Nick Auditore, Craig
Sutherland, Paulo Teixeira, Tyler Murphy and Raul Herrera, plus
Bryan Sajjadi received second team recognition. MSU also picked up
two individual accolades as Herrera, the Mustangs' junior
goalkeeper, was named Defensive Player of the Year and head coach
Doug Elder earned his second-straight Coach of the Year award.
For the Buffs, Nicki Nielsen, Colin Bjostad, Ben
Everson and Jacob Fynboe Jensen were named to the first team, Lance
Parks, Freddy Dominguez, Abel Olivas, Aaron Thornton and Sebastian
Furness earned second team recognition and Theo Furness picked up
honorable mention. Everson was named Offensive Player of the Year
for the second consecutive season, while Olivas shared the Freshman
of the Year award with Eastern New Mexico's Kal Herbert, who
received second team honors.
Rounding out the All-Conference first team were
Northeastern State's Michael Wilson and Cory Cipollone and the
Greyhounds' Emerson Rodrigues. NSU had six All-Conference
selections, while ENMU notched three.
