The Lone Star Conference announced the 2009 men's soccer
academic awards on Thursday, headlined by West Texas A&M senior
midfielder Jacob Fynboe Jensen, who was named Academic Player of
the Year.
Jensen, a finance major from Horsens, Denmark, has
a 3.93 cumulative grade point average. This is his third-straight
LSC academic honor, in addition to being a three-time CoSIDA/ESPN
the Magazine Academic All-District team member. This season, he had
two goals and four assists for a total of eight points. His four
helpers were tied for the most on the Buffs, giving him the team
lead in assists for the fourth consecutive year.
Jensen led the 11-player All-Academic team, which
recognizes both athletic and academic achievement.
The All-Academic Team is selected by the league's
sports information directors, who vote on the basis of both
academic and athletic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic
honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.30 grade point average
and must be at least a sophomore. All academically qualified
student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then
named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
This year, the team consisted of three seniors,
four juniors and four sophomores.
Joining Jensen on the team were WTAMU teammates
Nicki Nielsen, John Cox and Shane Taylor, Midwestern State's Tyler
Murphy, Brian Sajjadi and Casey Hibbs, Northeastern State's Bo
Evans, Zach Schmoker and Neven Vujinovic and Eastern New Mexico's
Mychael Contreras.
