The Lone Star Conference recognized twenty student-athletes and
two head coaches as league officials announced the annual cross
country postseason honors.
The announcement comes on the
heels of the annual LSC Cross Country Championships meet, which
took place last Saturday in Commerce, Texas.
Abilene Christian maintained its
success at the meet, claiming both the men's and women's
titles. ACU's men won the LSC crown for the 17th
consecutive year, while the ACU women earned their seventh straight
title.
All-conference honors are given
to those runners who finish among the top 10 individually at the
conference meet, while additional awards are presented for Coach of
the Year and Freshman of the Year in both the men's and women's
divisions.
ACU's Amos Sang was named Men's
Freshman of the Year, while his coach Derek Hood received Men's
Coach of the Year honors. On the women's side, Central
Oklahoma's Bailey Holden was Freshman of the Year and Tarleton
State's Pat Ponder was Coach of the Year.
The coaching honors were selected
by a vote of all the LSC head coaches, while the freshman awards
went to the top freshman finishers at the league championships.
The Wildcats Serge Gasore won the
men's individual title to highlight the all-conference list.
He was joined by teammates Julius Nyango, Sang and Phillip Birgen
for All-LSC recognition.
East Central's men, who finished
second, were led by All-LSC performer, Matt Appelman. Rey
Hinojosa paced Tarleton to a third-place finish while also earning
All-LSC honors. Also earning All-LSC recognition were
Cameron's Mudasar Haidat, Eastern New Mexico's Nimrod Lelei, Texas
A&M-Commerce's Tyler Tyndell and Angelo State's David Solis.
ACU's Loice Cheboi captured her
second straight women's individual championship, with teammates
Mary Mwangi and Hayley Garner joining her in the top 10.
Tarleton's women finished second with All-LSC performer Claudia
Castanon leading the charge.
Three Southwestern Oklahoma
runners, Stefanie Jones, Rachel Ingram and Grace Ann Fath, along
with ECU's Betty Hernandez and UCO's Holden and Evelyn Berko also
made the women's All-LSC list.
